Expanded States of Consciousness
and the Transpersonal Experience

One of the important key pillars of my work involves the use of amplified states of consciousness,
otherwise known as a Transpersonal Experience.

The Transpersonal Experience is an experience that goes beyond the personal. It propels us beyond our biographical story and beyond our limiting personality into an experience that is more expansive. One in which we can touch the essential nature of ourselves, and connect with information, knowledge, and wisdom that is eternal.

Why the transpersonal experience
is so important

1. The limits of the thinking mind

In our day to day lives our conscious mind tends to filter out much of our experience.

Strong emotions, uncomfortable memories, and difficult situations are often denied or pushed aside, never to be properly dealt with or processed.

Yet these experiences can often contain the seeds of deeper knowledge and understanding.

They are like a portal to addressing the unknown parts of ourselves.

When the conscious mind struggles to make sense of certain situations or life processes, we need to find a way to move beyond it. Beyond the thinking mind are doorways to the transcendent, where a larger field of experience can emerge and inform how we perceive life.

Deep insight cannot be reached through analysis alone.

We need to access a higher level of awareness and consciousness. We need to make contact with a wider, more amplified state of awareness that helps us perceive life from a different perspective and make meaning.

2. Entering the Transpersonal Experience

In transpersonal states of consciousness, the thinking mind begins to relax and a wider field of perception opens.

Within this expanded awareness we may encounter forgotten memories, see aspects of ourselves from another time, or gain new understanding of our past. Insights may arise from the subconscious, from the unseen aspects of our own being, and from the living intelligence of the Earth.

These can become moments of revelation and epiphany where change occurs at a fundamental level.

At this level of amplified consciousness we begin to question our own behaviour. We become more aware of the thoughts that once operated mechanically within us, and we begin to develop a deeper spiritual consciousness.

In these spaces we are able to see more clearly what is happening within ourselves and in the subtler realms of experience.

3. Contact with the Inner Self

We are human beings having human experiences, but we are also spiritual beings.

At times we need to step beyond the density of ordinary life and enter the extraordinary realms of consciousness, bringing insight back with us so that we can live with greater meaning and understanding.

Through the transpersonal experience we make contact with what has been called our Essential Nature, our Core Self, Inner Being, or Buddha Nature. While our personality can often feel fragmented, there is this deeper aspect of ourselves that remains whole, harmonious, and at peace.

Through making contact with this aspect of ourselves we develop another point of reference from which to interpret life and make meaning. We gain access to an inner point of reference rather than looking outside ourselves for direction or guidance and this deeper awareness begins to influence how we live and love on this Earth.

We learn how to be fully present with life as it moves through us; how to be present with family and loved ones, how to care for our health to maintain energetic integrity, and how to support others during moments of grief and loss. We develop compassion for ourselves and others and take greater responsibility for our thoughts and actions.

This is a mature spirituality.

It is not a spirituality of feathers and candles and crystals. It is a spirituality related to mystical death: one in which we learn to die to the false aspects of ourselves each day and become reborn in Spirit.

4. The Role of Ceremonial Plants

Since the beginning of time, human beings have communed with the spirit of the plants in order to bring forth healing, remembrance, and harmony to life.

Ceremonial plants help us enter deeper states of consciousness; to awaken the inner power within ourselves and become internally dynamic. They create the conditions in which the thinking mind can relax and hidden material can rise to the surface.

Their purpose is to illuminate the mind and heart, helping us enter a space of revelation.

Through this process we begin to understand greater things about nature and ourselves:

  • To recognise our gifts and how they may serve the collective

  • To vision the unseen into the seen and co-create from a place of deep knowing

  • To become a bridge between Earth and Spirit

  • To respond to life with trust, patience, faith, and perseverance

This is an extraordinary consciousness with which we can live.

It is within this trans-ordinary space that the deeper inner work begins.

The benefits of this work

  • A deeper sense of connection with the world and with Life

  • A deeper understanding of your mission and purpose

  • Increased mental and emotional clarity

  • Increased sense of compassion, empathy, trust, and patience

  • A deeper understanding of your own internal mechanisms, thought patterns, and conditioned behaviours

  • Increased neural elasticity and adaptability

  • A deeper connection to your spiritual life

  • An understanding of your gifts and strengths and how to share these with the world

These experiences usually take place over a long weekend or a week-long retreat.
